Original printing of a legal brief in an historic World War II court case: Regan, representing the racist Native Sons of the Golden West, sought to cancel the citizenship - and San Francisco voting rights - of Japanese-Americans during their wartime internment.

The Japanese-American Citizens League in alliance with the American Civil Liberties Union, and, most significantly, with the NAACP, filed this friend-of-the-court brief in opposition to the law suit, arguing that racism at home was akin to the "vicious" doctrine of Nazism abroad. "It is not too much to ask the courts, by jealously guarding our constitutional guarantees, to prevent this hateful concept from breaching our home defenses." The court's landmark decision upheld Japanese-American civil rights and ended future challenges to the citizenship birthright of "native-born" Americans.
