The Charge of the Light Brigade was a disastrous cavalry charge led by Lord Cardigan during the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854 during the Crimean War. It is the subject of a famous poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, whose lines are written on the elaborate base of this figure.
