Description
Massachusetts, circa 1800, dial signed "E. Willard", arched painted dial with floral spandrels and painted moon phase, seconds sweep and date aperture, period pendulum, winder and two weights, brass eight day movement, waisted case with quarter fan inlays, brass inlaid quarter columns and ogee bracket feet, period saddle board, 97 x 20 x 10-1/2 in.
Condition
dial paint with crackle, flaking and points of re-touch, extensive flaking and losses to moon and date dials (see detailed photos), case generally good, feet largely intact with patches at two returns, acorn finials early but possible replacements, works and case appear to be good match (two saddle board supports off, but present), fretwork with some cracks, patches and repairs (appears to be original but later color at back, see detailed photos), case with other scattered typical surface flaws, fretwork and finials old replacements, works and case possibly associated
