AMERICAN OR EUROPEAN SCHOOL (17TH CENTURY) PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN, oil on canvas, according to family tradition, the subject is Simon Deeder (Dutch/American, 1624-1697), an important early settler of New York, who arrived in New Amsterdam in 1652. Housed in an old molded giltwood frame. Probably late 17th century. 27" x 21" sight, 33 1/2" x 26 1/2" OA.
Very good visual condition with minor craquelure, scattered minor inpainting. Frame with minor wear and losses.
Provenance: Property from the estate of Spencer Kellogg Neale, Gordonsville, VA.
Descended in the Kellogg family of "Lockhaven", Buffalo, NY.
