Meisner: 1630s View of the Swiss Capital of Bern
A beautifully engraved bird's-eye view of Bern, Switzerland, with the armored hand of God wielding a sword and the motto "Only the Glory of Virtue Remains" above it. From Meisner's rare Thesaurus Philo-Politicus. Das ist Politisches Schatzkästlein guter Herren und bestendiger Freund, published in multiple volumes from 1623 to the end of the century, as Sciographia Cosmica after Meisner's death in 1625. The many views included in the work usually include allegorical images and moralizing captions in Latin and German.; RS2820; Meisner; Frankfurt / 1625 / 1638; 5 3/4" x 4"; b&w; overall age toning; some staining and several tiny wormholes, most of them in the margins
