Details: 3Pcs Antique Circus Music CIRCUS PARADE CIRCUS GIRL & LAUGH CLOWN LAUGH 1897-1928 ET Paull Lithograph Sheet Music Silent Film Musical Simple Little String

This lot features three antique pieces of circus music related ephemera: a music book titled "A Simple String Song from the Musical Play 'The Circus Girl'" with music by Lionel Monckton printed in 1897; an original front cover from E.T. Paull's 1904 piano composition "The Circus Parade" marked "Lith. by A. Hoen & Co. Richmond VA." and framed behind glass; and sheet music for the theme song to the 1928 silent film "Laugh Clown Laugh" printed in 1928.

The pieces range slightly in size; the largest item is the framed E.T. Paull composition cover which measures approximately 12.75" x 16" and the smallest item is the music book from "Laugh Clown Laugh" which measures approximately 9" x 12".

E.T. Paull was an American sheet music arranger and composer. Because he was attempting to sell his sheet music, Paull became more noteworthy as "the first music publisher to use five-color lithography for his sheet music. "'Laugh Clown Laugh' is a 1928 American silent drama film starring Lon Chaney and Loretta Young. An eponymous musical theme written specially for the film was seemingly played for audiences in movie theatres in the minutes before screenings of the movie. It became a hit record. Condition / Notes: The music book "A Simple Little String" has come disbound. Its covers display some typical signs of age toning and minor marginal creasing and chipping. The cover to "The Circus Parade" shows some moderate chipping edges and age toning though the colors remain bright and vivid. A sticker from a music dealer of the era remains on the front cover. The piece has not been examined outside of its frame. The "Laugh Clown Laugh" music book has come disbound and its covers show typical indications of age and wear including minor marginal chipping and light age toning.
