Description
Gerard Henderson (1928 - 2014) is a painter of Anglo-Chinese heritage who combined eastern and western influences into his artistic creations. This unique example of the artist's transition into painting horses is a two sided painting on cob pressed plywood. Thickly applied paint on one side depicts a sunset scene of junks in the South China Sea. It is signed and has a artist seal mark in the lower right hand corner. The other side is an unfinished painting of horse and bull showing the artist's developing interest in painting horses around the 1960's, when this painting was likely created.
Dimensions are 24 inches tall X 29 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: It has some age wear and mild chipping, but is in good overall condition. The unfinished side has tape residue from creation.
