Description
Chinese Fan Painting on silk of a Quail, according to Howard Hollis, is Japanese; now mounted as a hanging scroll. Age related wear. Height of art 9 1/4 inches (23.5 cm.) X width of 13 1/2 inches (34.5 cm.). Note: Accompanied by a letter dated 25 May, 1970 from Howard C. Hollis, former Curator of Asian Art, Cleveland Museum, and Howard C. Hollis, Inc., a post WW2 syndicate formed to purchase Asian Art from Japan. He translates the seals as Unkoku Toeki, 1591-1644, and Toeki (school), although says the painting "would seem to be in the style of the Ming Dynasty."
