Limited facsimile edition of Hogenberg's impressive 16th century volume. This copy with early gift inscription above frontispiece. With the armorial bookplate of author Francis Frederick Fox. Scarce.
Hogenberg did not give a title to his work, which is often incorrectly described as the "entry" of the Pope and the Emperor in Bologna. The Pope had arrived in the city on October 23, 1529, and the Emperor made his official entry on November 5.
Condition
Most of the book has detached from the binding and is laid in disbound sections; fair amount of wear and soiling to cloth, corners worn, areas of loss to spine; interior with some areas of light foxing, edgewear with some minor chips and tears; interior largely disbound but complete.
