Description
[Asia] Asia Noviter Delineata Auctore Gulielmo Bleauw. c. 1620s to mid-1600s. Shows Asia, including the Middle East Southeast Asia. Nova Zembla is present but vaguely drawn. The Northwest Passage, or "Fretum Anian" appears next to a speculative northwestern North American coastline. Korea is an island. Honshu is rotated clockwise. Numerous cities and settlements are labeled. 9 small city views appear in the upper border: Kandy, Calcutta, Goa, Damascus, Jerusalem, Hormuz, Banten, Aden, and Macao. On the sides are 10 illustrations of Asian, Middle Eastern, and Russian costume. Later hand coloring. Map: 13 7/8 x 17 3/4 in. With borders: 14 7/8 x 21 3/4 in. Sight condition very good. Wear to lower portion of c-fold. Matted, under glass. Not examined out of frame.
