Description
Native American, Washington State, Yakima tribe, ca. 1920 to 1930 CE. A stunning textile satchel from the Yakima Indian tribe. A sturdy leather panel has green fringe material stitched around the peripheries and surrounds a lovely beaded floral scene. Beads in hues of emerald, ruby, citrine, sapphire, and white are intricately arranged to display two multi-petaled flowers stemming from a larger plant-shaped vessel beneath. A red felt panel comprises the reverse of the bag and is joined to the front panel with the same green periphery material. A twisted leather cord has been sewn into each upper corner and was meant for suspension or holding. Such beadwork would have taken a rather skilled and patient hand, and this satchel is no exception; a gorgeous example of Yakima Indian craftsmanship! Size: 6.25" W x 7.625" H (15.9 cm x 19.4 cm).
