Item Details

Description

Divine Extra large Chinese jade censer, in a wide bowl construction, with wood domed lid, lapis-lazuli finial, and slightly elevated discus footing resting on a hardwood stand. Qilin head creates handles, with block-shaped snouts serving as the finger-grips. In Chinese tradition, the Qilins rare appearance often accords with the looming birth or death of a sage or memorable ruler. Qilin is a combination of the two characters qi â€œmale,â€ and lin, â€œfemale.â€ The lid is decorated with free-flowing patterns interspersed with beautiful chisel work. The stone has a lustrous white color and a moist oily appearance to the surface.
