A TURQUOISE OVERLAY BLACK GLASS 'PRUNUS AND WILLOW' SNUFF BOTTLE, QING DYNASTY

Black glass with turquoise-blue overlay, carved in relief with neatly incised detail. China, 1770-1850

The bottle is carved in high relief through the turquoise-blue overlay to the opaque black ground on one side with a prunus tree, and on the other with a willow tree. The handles on each shoulder are composed of the longevity sign 'zhou' and a bat holding two coins.

Shape: Rounded flat rectangular shape
Hollowing: Standard
Mouth, neck and lip: The neck is emerging from the bottle, with a very thin lip and wide opening
Base: Oval base with raised flat foot rim in turquoise-blue overlay
Stopper: Glass in imitation of pink tourmaline on a glass platelet in imitation of carnelian
Height of the bottle with stopper: 8.5 cm.
Width of the mouth: 8 mm.
Width of the neck: 12 mm.
Condition: Overall good condition with few tiny nibbles to depiction, one to foot rim, the neck possibly with slight trimming
