A FINELY CARVED SANDWICHED PINK GLASS 'LOTUS' SNUFF BOTTLE
Carved pink and white sandwich glass of decent, noble color. China, 1740-1830
Depicting an overall design of a lotus flower with several petals emerging from a large lotus leaf, the stem of which curls around to form the foot rim, all carved in high relief and with neatly incised detail to simulate veining.
Shape: Flattened ovoid form
Hollowing: Standard
Mouth, neck and lip: Short, slightly sprawling neck with flat top, the mouth slightly slanted towards the inside
Base: Natural base in the shape of a lotus stem
Design, marks, school: Probably Imperial Glassworks, Beijing
Stopper: Green aventurine glass
Height of the bottle with stopper: 6.5 cm.
Width of the mouth: 6 mm.
Width of the neck: 16 mm.
Condition: Few small chips restored to perfection, some minor nibbling
Provenance: American private collection
