Description
A Mousterian Neanderthal discoidal flint scraper tool, 80,000 - 40,000 years ago, Dordogne, France. This stone tool was fashioned by Neanderthals over 40,000 years ago out of flint, and features a prominent 'bulb of percussion on one side, which is a noticeable bulge as a result of only being flaked by a human rather than by natural environmental forces such as frost or glacial action. The flake is very thin and still sharp and complete. A wonderful, deep patina and soil sheen from burial, dominates the flint surface. Cave floor mineral deposits are attached on the both sides. This fantastic flake tool is complete with prehistoric evidence of use. A superb example from this famous Neanderthal region! L: 2 inches. Ex French private collection acquired in 2005.
