Description

DESCRIPTION: Sampler of flowers by Catherine Hallowell. Dated 1840. Floral cross-stitching on evenweave with pink background fabric. In wood frame. Catherine Hallowell (1829-1898) was a lifelong Pennsylvania resident livingjust outside of Philadelphia. She was 11 or 12 when completing the sampler. Includes a photograph of Catherine Hallowell Jenkins and husband William Henry Jenkins. PROVENANCE: Pieces purchased by consignor at a sale inthe Abington/Ambler area, Pennsylvania prior to 1977. MEASUREMENTS: 16" x 19-1/2". Overall with frame 20-1/8" x 23-3/4". CONDITION: Toning and fading with spots of discoloration or soiling. Frame with losses.
