Description
**Originally Listed At $700**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 CE. A musical whistling bridge-spouted stirrup vessel featuring a fine rendering of a cazique atop the front chamber joined via a strap handle to a tall tubular spout. The standing figure is extensively decorated with applied, stamped, and finely painted details: an elaborate headdress, round earspools, a 'beaded' multistrand pectoral, and an expressive visage. The twin round chambers are both attractively decorated with striated and wavy motifs on both sides. Truly pristine presenting an elegant form and finely painted chocolate brown on cream decoration, this piece is an exemplar of Chancay painted pottery vessels.
