Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A cast bronze handle from a large bronze vessel with an oval loop and a zoomorphic-shaped attachment. Two concentric circles incised low on the attachment look like eyes; these are common symbols in Roman bronzework, believed to ward against the evil eye. Size: 2.35" W x 3.05" H (6 cm x 7.7 cm); 4.6" H (11.7 cm) on included custom stand.
