Description
Glazed ceramic with paint and gold. Japan, Meiji period
Ovoid form with a rippled, outwardly flared mouth. Both vases feature two large framed fields with somewhat different painting. Each has a figural scene with a royal figure and entourage. The other image is a nice, poetic-romantically painted landscape with mountains, river and huts. The filler spaces have blossoms and tendrils in gold against a dark-blue background. On the bottom are the characters for the name KEN-ZAN 串山.
Condition: One in good condition, the other with a very well restored break
