Description
Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. early 19th century CE. A beautiful and ornate bronze cross with a complex iconography. The decorated side depicts the Orthodox cross, with two cross bars at the top and a slanted cross bar at the bottom. On the left and right of the cross bar are the letters "IC" and "XC" respectively, the abbreviation for Christ. Flanking the uppermost arm of the cross are a pair of seraphim, while below it is a skull, meant to be the skull of Adam. Size: 5.875" H (14.9 cm)
