Description
Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A cast bronze figure of a stag with an impressive set of antlers. The stag stands proudly on four feet, cast into two integral platforms, one at front and one at back. A large hole through the center of the body may indicate that this was worn as an amulet. A small bronze ring through the nose may have been used for the same purpose. The stag was beloved of the goddess Diana and this could have served as a charm for her or a votive offering. Size: 1.75" W x 2.05" H (4.4 cm x 5.2 cm); 2.9" H (7.4 cm) on included custom stand.
