Description
Origin: France, retailed or made with French movement by Robert Pleissner’s company in Germany, Dresden.
Robert Pleissner, born Jan. 18th, 1849; died May 29th, 1916. Apprentice in Dresden 1863-1867 in W. Retslag’s workshop, later worked in Paris. Pleissner opened his own company in Dresden in 1874. In 1894 Heinrich Kochendörffer (3) worked for one year with Pleißner. Robert has received various silver and golden medals at various exhibitions in Dresden, Munich, Nuremberg and Chicago. Robert was father of Paul Pleissner, who was a student at the German Watchmaker School in Glashütte (DUS). Robert Pleissner was also a supplier of watches from A. Lange & Söhne / Glashütte i. Sa. He was also a well-known watch collector. In 1909 the Mathematical-Physical Salon acquired his collection of small watches. At the 50th anniversary of Robert Pleissner’s company in 1924, his son Paul and M. Engelmann wrote a book about watchmaking in Dresden. Only a few days before he died, he received the title of Kommisionsrates. Robert Pleißner died on May 29, 1916 in Dresden and was buried on the Trinity Cemetery in Dresden's Johannstadt district.
Rococo style clock made in the 19th c., 2nd half. Case made of gilt bronze, precisely chiseled, decorated with cherubs figures. Very good quality of cast.
French movement of good technical quality, stamped B&G in oval and numbers: 6683 and 3/11. Original pendulum.
White porcelain dial with black Arabic ciphers, inscribed [RO]BERT PLEISSNER / DRESDEN. Beautiful gilt bronze, engraved hands. Dial's diameter - 72 mm.
Dimensions: height – 30,8 cm, width – 15,3 cm, depth – 10,4 cm.
Condition report: case in very good condition, chemically cleaned, with tears to the gold layer. Damages to the dial. Movement works, not tested in the longer time. Winding key missing.
Provenance: Swedish private collection.
