Description
Oil on paper. Featuring a lady sitting. Signed and attr. William Merritt Chase (American 1849-1916). Signature on lower right corner. Stamped "Charles Egan NY" on verso. 8.3 x 11.4 inch (21 x 29 cm). American Impressionist William Merritt Chase declined to take on his father's shoe business with the explanation that "the desire to draw was born in me." He trained first with Barton S. Hays in Indianapolis before studying abroad at the Royal Academy in Munich, where he met his future friends and travel companions Frank Duveneck and John Twachtman.
