Description
Pala Period, 8th-12th century AD. A carved stone figure of Buddha seated cross -legged in the Bhumisparsha, or 'Calling the Earth to Witness' posture; seated in an apse formed by two balustered columns and a triangular arch with scrolled detailing with tower to top, representing miniature version of the Mahabodhi temple; mounted on a custom-made stand. 2 kg total, 19cm (7 1/2"). Property of a European gentleman living in London; previously from an American collection formed in the 1950s.
