BERNARD INSTONE ENGLISH ARTS AND CRAFTS STERLING SILVER AND ENAMEL DIMINUTIVE BOWLS, PAIR, circular form, on circular foot, with tab handles having cloisonne-like enamel decoration depicting a thistle blossom, monogram to side "H.S.", Birmingham hallmarks, 1904 date mark, and maker's mark "B.I." for Bernard Instone (1891-1987), with additional "Bernard Instone" impressed mark. Total weight: 6.74 ozt. 1904. 1 1/4" H, 5 1/4" WOA, 3 5/8" D rim.
Excellent condition overall, expected minor wear, one with a very shallow flake to enamel decoration.
Catalogue Note: Bernard Instone (British, 1891-1987) was a highly regarded silversmith and jeweler of the British Arts and Crafts period. He studied at the Birmingham School of Art under the influential artist and jeweler Arthur Gaskin, and eventually worked there as well, teaching jewelry making.
