Description
JAPANESE CLOISONNE VASES, PAIR, barrel form with short, slightly flared neck, having blue ground with polychrome scenic decoration, each featuring a falcon tethered to a perch amid flowering rose bushes and cherry blossoms, with songbirds perched or flying just out of reach, one falcon with wings spread, perched above a banner or tapestry, the other with wings closed, perched above a banner featuring the mon of the Tokugawa clan, and scrolling/floral motif borders under rim and above base; enameled interior and underside, unmarked. Probably second half 19th/early 20th century. 12 1/8" H, 4 3/4" D rim.
Excellent condition overall, expected minor wear and irregularities, including some as made, possibly some early restoration to foliate decoration.
