**First Time At Auction**

New World, North America, US Southwest, probably Navajo, ca. mid 20th century CE. A stylish bolo tie with braided leather cords and two dangling silver tips hanging from each end. A large rectangular silver ornament is clamped to the center of the leather cords, and is detailed with inlaid with fifty-one stones, including turquoise, coral, mother-of-pearl, and jet. Two figural heads are visible, each separated by a diagonal line of inlaid turquoise, and represent two different styles of Native American Katsina (or Kachina) dolls. Bolo ties are a symbol of the US Southwest, and were first created by Native Artisans around the early 1950s. These pieces were largely unsigned by their artists and serve as a kind of wearable folk art. Size: 20" L (50.8 cm) (length of leather); size of ornament: 1.4" W x 1.7" H (3.6 cm x 4.3 cm).
