Details: Civil War Era DAILY SOUTH CAROLINIAN ANTIQUE CONFEDERATE NEWSPAPER July 1864 Runaway Slaves Irish Immigration Abraham Lincoln American History

This antique copy of "The Daily South Carolinian" was printed in the Confederate States at the height of the Civil War and dates Sunday, July 31, 1864. The paper is notable for its details of various Civil War battles and skirmishes, polemics against Abraham Lincoln and the Union, and its disturbing classified advertisements seeking the return of runaway slaves. Another interesting passage frames the North's exploitation of Irish immigrants as a worse crime than slavery, noting "The Irishman is the negro of the North, but he is not so well taken care of, because he does not cost so much."
