1674 Castellamonte Architecture Duke Savoy Palace of Venaria Italy ARMS Saxony
Following the construction of the Palace of Venaria for Duke of Savoy Charles Emmanuel II, architect Amedeo di Castellamonte created book celebrating his masterpiece of architecture. Castellamonte presented this book, ‘Venaria Reale, Palazzo di Piacerce,’ to the Duke which served to describe the magnificent structure and monuments of the plaza. This work describes in detail aspects of 17th-century high class society as well as desires of Italian and French royals.
This particular 1674 example is lacking the illustrations; however, it is bound in a Moroccan red leather binding embossed with arms from the House of Savoy on the front and back boards.
