Inscribed by the author on the half-title to her brother Willie, "W. T. Arnold & Henrietta Arnold, from their loving sister, the author. Jan 22. 1892." Mrs. Humphrey Ward‘s fourth novel, the theme of which was suggested to her by her brother, Willie Arnold. Scarce inscribed copy.
Mary Augusta Ward CBE was a British novelist who wrote under her married name as Mrs Humphry Ward. She worked to improve education for the poor, and she became the founding President of the Women‘s National Anti-Suffrage League.
Condition
Some wear and soiling to cloth with rubbing to extremities, spines rebacked with the originals preserved; light toning to page edges; very good.
