Description
AutographsExceedingly Rare Special Braille Embossed Broadside for President Rutherford B. Hayes's Visit to the Kentucky Institute for the Blind
(RUTHERFORD B. HAYES).
Embossed Braille Style Broadside: "Programme of Exercises" for President Rutherford B. Hayes's Visit to Institute for the Blind, Kentucky, Choice Very Fine. This is a large, embossed program printed in raised letters on a white page, measuring 13.5" x 12", describing President Rutherford B. Hayes's visit to the Kentucky Institute for the Blind. It reads, in part: "PROGRAMME OF EXERCISES On occasion of the visit of R.B. Hayes, President of the United States, to the Ky. Inst. for the Education of the Blind, Sept. 18th 1877..." Hayes would receive an address by officials of the Institute, give a reply, and listen and observe music and calisthenics. The heavy card-stock programme has lettering for blind students to read the sheet--apparently Braille, a system of raised dots and symbols, invented in 1821, was not in use at the Institute! This extremely rare document has four folds, but otherwise is in terrific condition. The only example we have ever seen.
Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
