Description

Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 1000 to 400 BCE. A beautiful maskette, hand-carved from a mottled pale greenstone with dark inclusions, depicting an abstract anthropomorphic face with highly-stylized features. The visage is comprised of a prominent nose, projecting chin, bar-shaped ears, drooping cheekbones, and a pair of drilled pupils resting beneath an overarching brow line. The piece is curved and carved-out along the verso with a pair of biconically-drilled suspension holes above each ear, suggesting this was at one time worn as a pendant. A fine example replete with expert craftsmanship! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 1.5" W x 1.625" H (3.8 cm x 4.1 cm); 3.625" H (9.2 cm) on included custom stand.
