Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Sihuas, ca. 500 to 0 BCE. A beautiful textile sash comprised of tightly woven camelid (alpaca or llama) wool fibers of russet, chocolate brown, tawny sienna, and creamy beige hues - presenting a mesmerizing pattern of repeated diamond motifs. Although some sources would designate Sihuas textiles as Nazca, the iconography is not comparable to the majority of Nazca textiles. A wonderful example from this ancient Andean culture. Size: woven textile measures 54.5" W x 5.25" H (138.4 cm x 13.3 cm); 69" W x 16.375" H (175.3 cm x 41.6 cm) including black cotton cloth backing
