Description
Court dress with overtrain in aubergine gros-de-tours having gold paint specks, scattered tiny embroidered flower sprigs and bands of embroidered flowers intertwined with handmade cream lace, the dotted train is embroidered deeply around the sides and bottom, pannier overskirts with lace and floral swags above an insert of cream silk embroidered with a wide band of flowers; reconstructed back-lacing bodice with lace ruffles and paint decoration made by Janet Arnold in 1991, gown was originally attributed to Marie Antoinette, dating from the 18th C, worn as a Marie Antoinette costume in the late 19th C. Lot includes cotton 18th C-style hoops made by Janet Arnold to accompany the costume. B-34, W-26, skirt L-40, overskirt CBL-88. (Skirt has modern lining, small repair, waist ties replaced, embroidery losses, minor holes in lace fade marks hidden in folds of overskirt) current incarnation very good.
