Description
Large group of items from the Samo People of Papua New Guinea. Lot includes two ceremonial drums, a large number of arrows, four sections of painted bark cloth, 12 string bags, nose pieces, woven armbands, cowrie shell necklaces, stone tools, bone daggers.
Condition
Property from the estate of Dr. Dan Shaw. Dr. Shaw and his family lived with the Samo people in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea from 1970 until 1982, when they returned to California. Dr. Shaw's time spent with the Samo people including learning the language and doing translation work; he was initiated as a Samo brother in 1973.
