Title: Thurlow Weed letter On 1840 Presidential Election And If Henry Clay Had Won The Presidency To NY A Congressman

Size: 7 7/8" x 10"

Excellent content autograph letter signed by newspaper publisher and New York politician Thurlow Weed. 1pg., 7 " x 10", Albany (New York), February 17, 1841. To Congressman from New York Charles F. Mitchell. Light age, old strip of paper on back edge, else fine with bold dark writing. This letter, all in Weed's hand, is a letter of introduction for Alderman Kirkpatrick. The letter reads: "Dear Mitchell, Allow me to introduce my friend Alderman Kirkpatrick to your acquaintance. He is and has been from the beginning, a hard working, efficient Whig. He goes to Washington to see end of a bad and the beginning of a good administration. If Mr. Clay won & have been inaugurated he would gone to Washington on foot, with peal in his Boots. Truly yours, Thurlow Weed". Weed supported William Henry Harrison in 1840, but was also a supporter of Henry Clay in previous campaigns. Weed despised Martin Van Buren, who Harrison beat in 1840, blaming his for the financial panic in 1837. Harrison would go on to serve the shortest term as President, dying 31 days into his Presidency. A great Whig letter.
