Description
Origin: Germany, Mecklenburg, 19th century.
Length – 97,8 cm.
Blade: Slightly curved single edged blade with one wide fuller, double edged in about 1/3 from the tip. Both sides of the blade are richly etched with floral motifs and war trophies. The maker’s mark on the ricasso. Length of the blade 84 cm, width 2,3 cm.
Hilt: Iron guard with a knuckle guard with two side bows. The back side of the quillon is bent down, with the round end. The knuckle guard is connected with the pommel, which is formed in one peace with iron back of the grip. Pommel has leaf shape decorations. Wooden grip with cross grooves, wrapped with twisted brass wire.
Scabbard: Iron scabbard with two suspension rings. In the upper part of obverse brass monogram of Frederick Francis II, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
Condition report: very good overall condition. Nice clean blade with no traces of corrosion, just some scratches and dents. Iron guard and pommel in very good condition, scratches. Wooden grip with small cracks, nice dark patina. Scabbard in very good condition, small traces of corrosion in places, scratches and dents.
