Description:
2 volumes. viii, 262; [2]; 315 pp. (12mo) 18x10 cm (7x4½"), early marbled boards backed with modern sheep. Pages untrimmed. First Edition.
Smollett's third novel. In his eight-page dedication, Smollett states that his intent with his devious Ferdinand Count Fathom is to explain the mysteries of fraud. This copy retaining the final blank leaf in volume 1. Very scarce in this state.
Condition
Rubbing to bindings, edges worn; contemporary ink signature on the title pages, tear in the margin of one leaf in vol. 1, small piece clipped from the bottom of the title in vol. 2, otherwise a nice example of an untrimmed copy; very good.
