Description
He served in the 1870/71 war. He was a professor and then director of the Ecole SupŽrieure de Guerre. During the First World War, he blocked the German advance in Lorraine. He contributed to the first victory at the Marne. Disgraced for a time, he fought in Italy. He was then appointed general of the allied troops and won the second victory at the Marne. He was promoted to Marshal in 1918 and signed the armistice on 11.11.1918. He was President of the Supreme War Council and negotiated the peace.Photographic portrait with autograph dedication signed dated 17.01.1928.
