Old Colony & Newport Railway Fixed Globe from Lantern

Item Details

Description

A very early fixed globe from the Old Colony & Newport Railway. It is cut OC&NR in block lettering. Interesting that they used just a single "R", it is after all Railway and not Railroad. This line dates back to the Civil War era. It is a standard size 2 1/2" top diameter and 3 1/2" base diameter. The visible portion is 6 1/2". It has an applied flange to the base. It has nice swirl marks from being shaped to the specific dimensions. There is a little old rust on the top area. A nice early piece if you have a New England Glass Company tin frame.
