Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin, ca. 1200 to 500 BCE. A stunning miniature bead, hand-carved from a violet-hued amethyst fragment with effervescent white inclusions. The form of the bead resembles that of the blow conch, a sacred and deeply-symbolic instrument in Chavin culture and mythology. The ovoid form is wide at the top, gradually narrowing towards the bottom with a flared lateral lip on one side, and is biconically-drilled from top to bottom. A beautiful example with vibrant color! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 0.875" H (2.2 cm); 2.75" H (7 cm) on included custom stand.
