Photograph of an historic Marion Steam Shovel Model 91, in use by the Boston Consolidated Mining Company, along with a steam engine on parallel tracks. Utah Copper and Boston Consolidated merged after their separate surface operations approached each other in 1906. The very first large-scale open-pit copper operation in the world was in Bingham Canyon on March 1906. They started using steam shovels and the railroad.
