Description
A superb, large-scale map of Africa, with great deal of detail as to settlemets, rivers, lakes, mountains, etc. along the coasts. Much of the interior is yet to be explored by Europeans. Insets are the Gold Coast (South Africa) and the Azores. Plenty of explonatory texts are presented. The political boundaries are color-outlined. A very large cartouche showing four natives, weaponry, drums and flora. Many sailing ships are shown in the oceans. Map was originally engraved by Boulton in 1772 for d'Anville. First English edition. Four maps -- two set joined horizontally.

Very Good. Clear strike on thick paper with color outlines. Modest toning, slight offsetting, and a few splits. Issued folds.
