Description
Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 14th to 16th century CE. A delightful greyware disc featuring a seated Buddha figure. Buddha is depicted in high relief on the mold-made disc, shown seated, holding a jar of ointment. This is the Medicine Buddha, the Buddha of healing who is described as a doctor who cures suffering. The ornate figure here is upon a lotus throne, with a gently pointed, arch-like halo behind him. Size: 1.95" W x 2" H (5 cm x 5.1 cm)
