Description
Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 BCE. A stylized, cast bronze ibex with high, back-curving horns and a curled tail. The ibex looks spritely, as if ready to spring forward. A loop on the back allowed this fellow to be worn as a pendant. The ibex was a sacred figure associated with fertility and virility. This is a fine example of the skill of Luristan's bronze casters. Size: 2" H (5.1 cm); 2.25" H (5.7 cm) on included custom stand.
