Description
This is a very interesting ethnohraphical map of the Austo-Hungarian Empire just after World War I started, as was published in 23 September, 1914 by the British Illustrated War journal. It shows the ethnic make-up of the Empire (11.5 M Austrians/Germans, 8.7 M Hungarians, 21 M various 'Slavs' and 3.8 M Roumanians). The map itself uses a mix of German and English place names. The text below by the British Chancellor of Exchequer warns the Empire that misstreatment of the ethnic 'Slavs' will force Russia to 'ramshakle [the] Empire limb for limb'.
