Hardcover. 8 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches. viii, 264; viii, 265. 3-panel gate-fold map, in one color, bound in before page 1 of volume I, single-page map in volume II. Errata slip bound in at front of volume I states that while it may seem that some illustrations are missing, all illustrations referenced in the text are present and in their places and the work is therefore complete. Illustrations are numbered 1-312 (plus 101 1/2 and 210 1/2 and three which are unnumbered). Illustrations numbered 1, 2, 23, 137, 142, 149, 159, 246 and 247 are not present in this first edition, first impression (as referenced by the errata slip). A few plates are bound in out of strict numerical sequence. "Bonham Carter" in ink on front endpaper. Publisher's cloth binding.

Good, with corners bumped, spines and labels darkened, cloth has some stains, endpapers discolored, plates light to moderate age spotting, cloth torn at top of spine volume I, hinges loose, be advised that all lots in this sale will exhibit some degree of wear due to age and/or handling
