Provenance: Ex-collection Cecil Hopkins-Husson, London. Acquired from the latter by the present owner's father, circa 1960-70. Thence by descent.

Lot Note (Ernest Durig): A number of drawings formerly believed to have been by Rodin, were actually the work of artist, Ernest Durig (1894-1962). Durig was a sculptor and art forger, known for his faking of drawings by Auguste Rodin.

Durig claimed to have been a pupil of Rodin, but this claim was never fully documented. Nevertheless, Durig enjoyed a successful career, probably largely the result of his claimed association with Rodin.

The New York Museum of Modern Art holds a collection of Durig's drawings, as do other important American and European museums.
