Description
Hiroshige Ando a.k.a. Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) was one of the two great masters of the Japanese landscape woodblock print. In 1811, Hiroshige received a chance to join the famous Utagawa painting school. In 1812, he was accepted to the school by the woodblock artist Toyahiro, and later took up the name of Utagawa. Hiroshige's early prints were book illustrations in the period of 1818s-1830s. His first landscape series is entitled "Eight Famous Views of Omi." For the next twenty years, he focused on landscape prints. The print offered here is a faithful hand-made recreation of one of Hiroshige's landscapes, made around 1970 in the the ukiyo-e school tradition. It and comes in its original rice paper folder with a window mat and a printed overlay describing the series. The print itself is in excellent condition and has never been framed. The presentation folder shows some wear, as can be seen in the photos. The image size is 13.5" x 9", on 15"x10" paper. The folder size is 17" x 11.5" *NOTE: This is one of THREE Hiroshige prints from this series which I am listing.
