BIOGRAPHY
An Impressionist painter, William Robinson created landscape paintings that were very popular in his day, and he was a key figure in the Old Lyme, Connecticut Art Colony.
He spent every summer from 1905 to 1920 at the Florence Griswold mansion in Old Lyme and from 1921 to 1937, was a permanent resident. He was one of the founding members of the Lyme Art Association and later served as its president.
He was a member of the National Academy and from 1914 to 1921, was president of the American Watercolor Society. He won many awards including a silver medal at the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco.
In his later years, he lived in Biloxi, Mississippi and died there in 1945.
